The Quintessential Christmas Decoration

Do you have that one decoration that without it, it just wouldn't be Christmas?  The one item that you pull out of its storage container, look at it and smile a little smile while your heart warms with joy?

I have that decoration.  My mother had this decoration in her home while I was growing up.  At one point in my mom's life she decided to get creative and started doing ceramics.  Ceramics was BIG in the 70s and I remember my mom going over to do ceramics with her friends and from time to time bringing back some fun items.

Here is my special decoration:

These ceramic Mr. and Mrs. Claus have been in our home for decades now.  They have found themselves in many places in our home.  They are rather large, so they make an impression where ever they land.  One year they sat on the floor by the candy tree.  They often sit on the kitchen table, and one year they were on top of the hutch.  No matter what, these cheerful decorations find a place at our home during Christmas.

What is your decoration that you just can't wait to take out of the box?  Linking up with Mary at Mosaic Monday!

  2. First of all, Terri, thanks for your visit!!

I am playing catchup as I have been so busy decorating!

Loved this post and how cute those figurines are.

I have a few special things that I can't wait to pull out of the Christmas boxes. I have several plasticville houses that were my parent's and were under the tree during my childhood. They are not under my Master bedroom tree.
And I have a calender from Avon that i bought many years ago. It starts on Dec. 1st and has little pockets that a little mouse fits in and you move the mouse until you reach Dec. 25. My sons used to take turns moving the mouse and counting down to Christmas. I have many memories of them running to move the mouse when they first woke up in the morning.

Thanks so much for reminding me of those wonderful memories.

    Hugs,
    Deb

  3. Oh my goodness! I have this exact ceramic Santa Claus that my mother made years ago!! I posted about it on my blog. She even had one of the firing ovens in her basement for the ceramics! This certainly does bring a smile to my face and I put it out every year and in fact this was the first thing I put out this year! ;-) Love your Mrs. Claus too! Have a wonderful weekend!
